Inside outside

What we see of others all depends
on what we really want to see
Do we look deep and try to understand
the depths of other's souls
Do we care to do more than scratch
the surface of their skin?

We may complain when people
do not understand our needs
but what we expect is mind readers
we give nothing away and our outside
is only the picture of what we want to show

sometimes cracks open up really
showing glimpses of what is beneath
hot glowing embers of anger
or cold dark recesses of pain and hurt
wounds unhealed raw and pink inside
quickly hidden again from view

inside and outside representations
when they are different it's dangerous
and conflict ensues
explosions of molten emotion
or the corruption of infected wounds
draining energy and life
both ways leading to strife

when the outside
is a reflection of the inside
a balance is restored
a gentle strength governs
harmony and peace
open and visible to all
no need to disguise
a wonderful surprise
to meet people who
acheive this delightful poise
free from all that internal noise
