Only cowards don’t fight back

“Only cowards don’t fight back”
I heard this on the radio
The rest of the talk I missed
I was thinking on the truth of this

Lost in musing I came to decide
The exact opposite is true in death
The truly brave face the facts
They stand tall in the final act

Fighting, struggling, writhing
Not accepting death is part of life
Shows a cowardice that is weak
Part of humanities ugly streak

We all die at some time
This is the prevailing trend!
Stand up and smile knowing
Our peace and acceptance is showing

That we have lived a life fully
We have yearned and hurt
Loved and given - we are spent
Our life lived as it was meant

Don’t fight back in this
Yield gently and with grace
This life ends only to start
The next with a wiser heart
